Wayne Peter Hansen ("Pete") Obituary

Shakopee, Minnesota - Wayne Peter "Pete" Hansen, of Shakopee, Minnesota, passed away with his family at his side on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

We will celebrate Pete's life with a memorial service on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Mount Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church, 12700 Marystown Rd, Shakopee.

A time for family and friends to gather will begin at 10:00 AM at the church, and the service will commence at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will follow the service also at the church.

Pete was born in Mankato, Minnesota, the fifth child of seven blessed to Woodrow and Louise (Marquardt) Hansen. He grew up in Mankato. He started working with his father at a young age, and he would drive truck for Woody Hansen and Sons. They did trucking, demolition, construction, and later sanitation. Peter graduated from Mankato High School in 1962. He began school at Mankato State while still working with his father.

In 1965, he was introduced to Sharon Louise Jeddeloh by a cousin of hers. Their first date was delayed as he was hauling sand to help with flooding on the Minnesota River. Rather than dinner at the supper club, they made do in the cab of the truck. He and Sharon would be married on July 23, 1966. They made Mankato their home, welcoming their first son, Robert, and later, James.

Pete made the decision to go back to school at Mankato Vocational Tech, earning a degree in Computer Programming. He had a mix of jobs in the programming field over the years. His first was with Dotson Foundry, then later taking a position with NuComp in Roseville, commuting to work each day from Mankato. The family then relocated to Texas for Pete's work, residing there for a couple of years before returning to Minnesota and settling in Shakopee. In 1987, he and a partner started their own company, D.P. Specialists, which took Pete across the country working in various locations for many different companies. In 1997, he was fortunate to be able to build his and Sharon's dream home in Shakopee. In 2000 he went to work for the US Postal Service as a programmer; he retired in 2010.

Pete was a man who could do and would try just about anything. He could build you a house, or a computer system, or fix your car. He was always willing to learn something new. He enjoyed electronics and computers and shared this passion with his children. He was a Ham Radio Operator and enjoyed building wooden model airplanes.

Pete cared deeply for his family and always sought ways to help and encourage them. He would purchase a pinball machine for his eldest son as a project to work on and learn from; he always found time and space for his youngest son's activities.

Pete enjoyed fishing in his younger days and was a green thumb gardener. He liked attending Electronic Swap Meets.

As he traveled so much for work, Pete savored time spent at home. Pete was a level-headed, calm-mannered, and true voice of reason. His ability to gently guide and care will be truly missed by us.

Pete is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sharon. His sons, Robert Peter and James Peter (Jordan), and his grandson, Everett Peter. Siblings, Boyd (Carol) Hansen, Dee (George) Johnson, both of Mankato, Minnesota. He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Lynn Hansen, Larry Hansen, Joanne Kenyon, Greg Hansen; Godsons, Keith Hansen and David Kenyon.
