Mankato, MN - Michael Harold Kennedy age 77, entered eternal life surrounded by his family on August 2, 2025.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 8, 2025 at 11 A.M. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato. Immediately following the Mass all are invited for a time of lunch and fellowship at the church. Private family interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato.

Michael was born on June 28, 1948, in Faribault, MN. He was the second of nine children of Robert and Elizabeth Kennedy. He was raised in Elysian, MN. He attended high school in Waterville, graduating in 1966 with honors. While growing up he worked in the family business, Kennedy's Standard Station. He attended the University of Minnesota, Morris (UMM) from 1966 to 1970 again graduating with honors. While at UMM he met the love of his life and his own "little red head girl" Judith Kennedy (Walz). They married in 1969 and were blessed with two children, Christopher and Nicole. While at UMM Michael and Judith were both student representatives to student government each year they attended. Michael was chairman of Morris Campus Union Board, All Campus Senate, and various other committees and assignments. After graduation, they moved to St. Paul so he could attend Law School at the University of Minnesota.

Upon graduating from Law School in 1973, he joined attorney Charles Adamson and they formed a partnership known as Adamson and Kennedy. After a few years he opened his solo practice at Kennedy Law office. He continued to practice alone until the late 1970s when he joined with attorney James Dailey and formed the firm Dailey and Kennedy. He again returned to solo practice, sometimes working with other attorneys, until he was joined by his son Christopher M. Kennedy in 1995, forming the firm Kennedy and Kennedy. Michael had a varied practice, specializing in Family and Municipal law. He served as City Attorney for multiple municipalities including North Mankato, Waseca, and Elysian.

Michael served on the Mankato City Council for eight years from 1988 to 1996. He also served as the President of the Key City Sertoma Club and Board Chairman of Horizon Homes. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling, reading, writing, and playing Bingo with his grandchildren. He even published a novel titled "Elysian."

He is survived by wife Judith of Mankato, son Christopher (Michele) of Mankato, MN and daughter Nicole Schwartzhoff (Bret) of Lake Geneva, WI. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Brian, Kayla (Joel), Ashley, Brooke, Aidan, and Brynn.
