Margaret Charlotte &x22Peggy&x22 Obituary
Margaret Charlotte Lowe, "Peggy", of Mankato, 85, died on Sunday, January 22, 2012, in hospice care at Hillcrest Health Care Center after a recent diagnosis of advanced pancreatic cancer. A memorial service will be held at Hosanna Lutheran Church on Friday, January 27, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation with family at the church an hour before the service. Private interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Mankato. Woodland Hills Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials are preferred to Mankato Hospice or to the Mark Lowe Art Endowment Scholarship at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Peggy was born in Mankato on June 24, 1926, to Adolph G. and Margaret H. (Turnquist) Nordgren. She grew up in Mankato and attended the University of Minnesota, where she earned her degree in dental hygiene. On August 30, 1947, she married Dean V. Lowe in Mankato. Peggy and Dean raised their four children in Mankato, where Peggy was active in church and community affairs, and Dean managed the Mankato Airport. He later became a corporate pilot for Honeymead and then for Jostens. During her years in Mankato, Peggy earned her pilot's license as well. Before her children were born and after they were raised, Peggy worked as a dental hygienist in both Colorado and Minneapolis. After spending many years of retirement in South Carolina and Florida, Peggy and Dean returned to Mankato in 2003, acquiring yet another beloved rescue dog, Honey. Honey spent the last eight of her sixteen years being spoiled by them, the last in a long line of lucky canines Peggy doted on. Always high energy, Peggy served twenty five years as a volunteer for Hospice during her years in the South and here in Mankato. She and Dean were frequent volunteers at Pathstone in Mankato as well as active in the Katoland Connection, and Peggy served as president for her townhouse association in Mankato. She enjoyed participating in knitting and quilting activities with the women of Hosanna Lutheran Church and made many good friends. In 2010, she was recognized as the Blue Earth County Senior Volunteer of the Year for her service to church and community as well as to Hospice. She is cherished by those who knew her as a person of kind heart, strong opinions, and love of fun, friends and family. Peggy is survived by her husband of sixty four years, Dean V. Lowe; a son David of Seattle, a daughter Nancy of Santa Cruz, California, a son Michael (Sandra) of Michigamie, Michigan; and a grandson Anthony Jolin, of San Diego, California. She is also survived by a brother, Lee (Donna) Nordgren, and a sister Jane (David) Schostag of Mankato; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends here in Mankato and elsewhere. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jon, and her son Mark. The family would like to thank Hospice Mankato and the Hillcrest staff for their loving care of Peggy and her family members during her illness.
