Loretta Elsa Prescher (Lorrie) Obituary
Richfield, MN - Loretta "Lorrie" Prescher was born on January 27, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of William and Pauline (Kudis) Neubert. A proud first generation American, Lorrie spent her early years in Chicago before moving with her family after eighth grade to a farm near Elysian, Minnesota. She graduated from Waterville-Elysian High School and went on to attend Mankato State College for two years, where she focused on music and voice. From a young age, Lorrie had a deep love of music. She played organ and piano at church and used her weekly earnings of 35 cents to purchase sheet music from the latest musicals and popular songs. Lorrie met Bob, the love of her life, at the Kato Ballroom, and the two were married on October 27, 1956. She worked at the cosmetics counters at Thros Drug Store and Brett's Department Store in Mankato before dedicating herself to raising her family as a stay-at-home mother. In 1976, she partnered with Bob to open Maple Edge Building Center in Mapleton, where she managed accounting duties and assisted customers in the paint department with decorating advice. After selling the business, Lorrie continued working at M.E. Robinson, an upscale clothing store, and later at Carlson Craft, where she eventually retired. Lorrie was gifted in music and was both an accomplished pianist and vocalist. Over the years, she accompanied numerous choirs and soloists at church and within the community and also directed both youth and adult church choirs. She enjoyed giving back by volunteering in reading programs for children and adults, regularly visiting residents at the Mapleton Community Home, and serving as an election judge in Mapleton for many years. She had a zest for life and enjoyed walking, participating in Bible studies, acting in local theater, and serving as a frequent church reader. Lorrie and Bob cherished their weekly date nights and could often be found dancing together to local bands. Lorrie will be remembered for her beautiful smile and her elegant sense of style. She believed in always leaving the house looking her best—never without a complete outfit, which always included her signature lipstick. She is survived by her two daughters, Julie A. (Steven) Jansma of Rice, MN, and Lisa D. (Matthew) Wendt of Eagan, MN; three grandchildren, Rachel (Blake) Kosanda of Burnsville, MN, Marcus Grave of St. Cloud, MN, and Matthew Grave of St. Cloud MN; and a special great- grandson, Austin Kosanda, along with many nieces and nephews. Lorrie passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, at Mainstreet Village Memory Care in Richfield, MN.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Mainstreet Village for their compassionate and attentive care, including the thoughtful daily touches—making sure her outfits were perfectly coordinated with her headbands and earrings.
