Joyce Tolzin Obituary

Winona, MN - Joyce Tolzin passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026, at the age of 88, at Sugar Loaf Senior Living surrounded by her children. She was born on April 10, 1938, to Lydia and Ronald Joyner, in Greenville, North Carolina.

Joyce grew up as the ninth of ten children, a childhood she often remembered fondly. She would share stories about her siblings, her beloved mother (Granny), and other things such as picking tobacco with her toes. These early years shaped the warmth, resilience, and deep sense of family that Joyce carried throughout her life.

She married the love of her life, Curtis, on Dec 8, 1962, in North Carolina. Joyce loved to tell the story of how they met at a Greyhound Bus station, causing Curt to miss his ride. Together, they built a life centered on love, faith, and family, raising three children: Leslie, Ronald, and Sylvia.

Miss Joyce devoted her life to caring for others. She was a dedicated homemaker and enjoyed working with children in various capacities, including numerous years as a childcare provider in Buffalo City, WI. Her kindness touched many lives, and she was truly one of the kindest souls anyone could meet.

After Curt's military retirement in 1983, the couple lived in Buffalo City, WI and later settled in Minnesota, purchasing a home on Lake Jefferson. There, they became deeply involved in their church and local community, forming lasting friendships and leaving a meaningful impact.

Joyce found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved her coffee, baking cookies, shopping outings, and, most of all, time spent with her grandchildren. Some of her happiest moments were at the family cabin in Dent, Minnesota. Joyce enjoyed taking her grandchildren to the nearby farm, enjoying sunny days at the local swimming pool, and digging for worms to use for fishing. Joyce loved tending to her garden, specifically her roses and vegetables.

A gifted quilter and sewist, Joyce expressed her love through her creations. She generously donated quilts to her church. Joyce was especially known for the beautiful baby blankets she made for all her friends and family's babies, each one stitched with care and compassion.

Joyce also had a special way of staying connected. She faithfully wrote letters and made phone calls to family and friends, ensuring that no one ever felt forgotten.

She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, and the deep love she had for her family and community.

Joyce is survived by her children, Leslie (Lynn) Tolzin, Ronald Tolzin, and Sylvia (Kevin) Kearney; her grandchildren Tyler Huebner, Bailey Huebner, Robert Tolzin, Collin Huebner; Great Granddaughter, Eastyn Huebner; and many extended nieces, nephews, their children and grandchildren, and all her daycare kids and friends who will miss her dearly.

A service to honor Joyce's life will be held at Hoff Funeral Home, 3480 Service Dr, Goodview, MN, 55987 on Thursday, April 23rd. Visitation will start at 1:00pm and service at 2:00pm, with coffee and dessert after. "Love you more"
