Harvey A. Hanel
Harvey A. Hanel, age 76 of Mankato, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at Hillcrest Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.
A Celebration of Harvey's Life will be Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 11 A.M. at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato with Pastor Adam Parvey officiating. Military honors will be held immediately following services at the church. Private interment will be in Minneopa Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred.
The Hanel Family will greet friends on Saturday morning for 2 hours prior to services at the church. Woodland Hills Funeral Home of Mankato is handling arrangements.
Harvey Andrew was born on March 8, 1943 to Ray and Evelyn (Baumann) Hanel in Mankato, Minnesota. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1961. Harvey then furthered his education graduating from Mankato State University in 1965. After college he served his country in the United States Air Force National Guard and was honorably discharged on December 5, 1971. On November 16, 1968 he was united in marriage to Virginia Tolzman in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Harvey and Ginny then raised their family on the Hanel family farm in Judson Township. Harvey was a life-long farmer and was extremely proud to be the owner and operator of Hanel Popcorn for many years. He was a member of Arc of Blue Earth County, Arc of Minnesota, Farm Bureau, and a long-time member of Hosanna Lutheran Church of Mankato. Harvey enjoyed farming, and loved time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Mankato; daughter, Angela (Dan) Mafredas of Farmington; sons, Brent Hanel of Madelia, Nathan Hanel of Mankato, and Rev. Michael (Bethany) Hanel of Bourbonnais, IL; sisters, Nancy (Bill) Rieke of Rochester, Mary (Charles) Hylen of Castlerock, CO, Susan Hanel of Colorado Springs, CO, Linda (Jim) Schwantes of Mankato, Sandra (Bruce) Schafer of Eagan; grandchildren, Emily Mafredas, Magdalena Hanel, and Katherina Hanel; by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Evelyn Hanel; daughter, Christin Hanel; brother, Roger Hanel; father and mother-in-law, Eckhart and Pearl Tolzman.
