Lake Crystal, MN - Gordon Wesley Anderson, 82, passed away on July 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Mankato, MN, he grew into a man known for his steady kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to the people he cared for.

He spent nearly his entire life in North Mankato and always felt it was the best place to be. Gordy served the community as a police officer for most of his career, earning a reputation for compassion, fairness, and genuine concern for others. He had a gift for turning difficult situations into teachable moments and focused on protecting people, sometimes from themselves. He was deeply proud of his work and the community he served. During those years, he also volunteered as a North Mankato firefighter and served as Captain during part of his tenure. Gordy understood duty, responsibility, forgiveness, and the importance of offering loving guidance when needed. Family and friends were the center of Gordy's life. He had a wonderful sense of humor and an easy, earnest way of connecting with people. For decades, he would meet with friends daily at the Happy Chef to enjoy coffee and share stories. He also enjoyed annual deer hunting trips with his friends, sons, and grandsons. The stories from deer camp make clear that the joy came from the time spent together far more than the hunt itself.

Baseball was woven through every stage of Gordy's life. Growing up, he was a catcher while his big brother, Bill, pitched. He played from childhood into his early 70s, finishing his career on a softball team with friends, his sons, and even his grandsons. In 2015, he was inducted into the Mankato Softball Hall of Fame, an honor he cherished. Gordy also enjoyed frequent golf outings with close friends and proudly hit a holeinone in 2021. Even as his health declined, he pushed himself to stay active, filling his days with community, sports, and connection.

Gordy was an avid collector, especially of things connected to baseball and his beloved Minnesota Twins. He enjoyed watching or listening to their games and attending Spring Training in Fort Myers nearly every day. He enjoyed getting to know the players, coaches, and staff. He also spent his time restoring classic automobiles. He restored many over the years but kept his treasured 1963 Corvette Stingray and 1965 Malibu SS SuperSport, both bright red convertibles.

Gordy met Barb Routh during his first year at Mankato State and they quickly fell in love. They married on October 26, 1963, and raised three children; Susan, Jason, and Brent, creating a stable, loving home in North Mankato. Barb passed away in 2007, leaving a profound absence in Gordy's life. In time, he reconnected with high school friend Carol Schaible, and the two became "engaged not‑to‑be‑married," sharing many meaningful years together. Carol remained an important part of Gordy's life and of the family.

Above all, Gordy loved his grandchildren. He attended many sporting events, hosted gatherings at his home, and shared in the joy of their lives. Each of them was such a blessing in his life.

Gordy is survived by his children, Susan (Will) Maas, Jason (Jodi) Anderson, and Brent Anderson; grandchildren Rachel (Case) Wiarda, Matt (Ellie) Clark, Alex Anderson (girlfriend, Madison), Michael (Hailey) Anderson, Claire Anderson (boyfriend, Landon), and Lily Anderson (boyfriend, Charlie); great‑granddaughter Jordie Clark; brother Bill Anderson; sister Kay (Arnie) Marshall; longtime fiancée Carol Schaible; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws. They will forever carry his love forward.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Anderson; parents Bob and June Anderson; sister‑in‑law Ausma Anderson; brother‑in‑law Dean Routh; sister‑in‑law Paula Routh; and parents‑in‑law Ray and Dorothy Routh.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 24, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato, MN, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be held at the church with interment to follow at Woodland Hills Memorial Park
