Mankato resident, Edward N. "Fast Eddie" Schoeneberger, age 72, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at his home surrounded by loved ones after a lengthy fight with emphysema. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Woodland Hills Chapel in Mankato, with Fr. John Wilmot, officiating. Interment will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at Woodland Hills Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service. Ed was born February 1, 1939, in Mankato to Sylvester and Gertrude (Miller) Schoeneberger. He graduated from Loyola in 1957 and Mankato VO Tech in 1975. He served in the US Army Reserves. On May 22, 1965 he married Elaine Olinger in Mankato.  He worked in the warehouse at H&C Electric, now known as Graybar. Ed played and coached fast pitch softball and is a member of the Mankato Softball Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, casinos, was an avid sports watcher and armchair quarterback. His friends and family were a very important part of his life. Ed is survived by his wife, Elaine; sons, Scott of Mankato and Troy (Megan) of North Mankato; daughter, Wendy (Paul) Kemp of Coon Rapids; grandchildren Kyle and Eliza Rae; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Bonnie; and his faithful companion, Dudley.
