Eden Prairie, MN - Dorothy Deegan

Dorothy Ann (Schreiner) Deegan, age 86, of Eden Prairie, MN, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026.

Born May 16, 1939, in New Ulm, MN, to Nick and Ethel (Reding) Schreiner, Dorothy was a proud 1957 graduate of New Ulm Catholic Schools. Driven by a lifelong desire to care for others, she attended the Ancker Hospital School of Nursing in St. Paul, beginning a dedicated career as a Registered Nurse that would span decades.

On September 24, 1960, Dorothy married Paul Deegan, embarking on a 56-year journey of love and family. Their early years took them to Austin, MN, and later Mankato, where Dorothy balanced a busy household with her work at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital and the Mankato Clinic. After a brief period in Woodbury serving as a school nurse, the family returned to Mankato to raise their children. In later years, Dorothy and Paul settled in Eden Prairie, where she brought her professional expertise and deep compassion for prenatal care to United Health Care.

Dorothy was the heart of her family, remembered most for her wisdom, warmth, and effortless graciousness. She found her greatest joy in her roles as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she delighted in filling her home with the aromas of home-cooked meals and the laughter of dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul; her brother, William Schreiner; and her sister, Mary Rieke.

Her legacy of kindness lives on through her children: Lisa (Joseph) Frandsen of Eden Prairie, Michael (Susan) Deegan of Chanhassen, and John (Lisa) Deegan of Shakopee. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Megan (Andrew) Burt, Matthew (Mattie) Frandsen, Nick Frandsen, Katie (Nolan) Deegan-Seibel, Mollie Deegan, Ryan Deegan, McKenna Deegan, and Jack Deegan; seven great-grandchildren: Jack, Kate, Ada, Dorothy, Frankie, Abraham, and Bennett; her sisters, Barb (Joel) Zimmerman and Carol (Doug) Bloedel; siblings-in-law Dan (Barb) Deegan, Jan Schreiner, and Charles Rieke; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Pax Christi Catholic Community (12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie, MN). Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, a place of beauty that reflects Dorothy's own spirit.
