Coon Rapids, MN - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Donna Verlaine Butler, on May 21, 2026, at the age of 90.

Born on December 16, 1935, in Lake Mills, Iowa, Donna was the eldest daughter of Orville and Palma Laugen. She was sister to Phyllis and Howard, both of whom survive her, and wife to Allan Keith Butler.

Donna is survived by two of her three children, Ava Sue Butler and Michael Butler. Her daughter Sandra passed away in 2024. She was the grandmother to two grandchildren, Anna Ballard and Blair Butler Dolan, and the great-grandmother to two great-grandchildren, Ozzie and Joelle Dolan.

Donna had a passion for education and was a dedicated first-grade teacher for 37 years in both Lake Mills and Mankato, Minnesota.

Donna's strong faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was an active member of her church choir for decades. She dedicated countless hours to volunteering, always willing to extend a helping hand to those in need.

A woman of many interests, Donna loved to explore both the United States and the far reaches of the world. Her travels were a testament to her adventurous spirit. At home, she found joy in knitting and was known for her impressive collection of first edition Caldecott award-winning books. She loved music and attended local concerts up until the time she no longer could.

A memorial service celebrating Donna's remarkable life will be held on June 16, 2026, at 1:00pm, at Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka, Minnesota.
