Kasota Township - Darrell J. Thomas 79, of Kasota Township, MN, passed on April 23, 2026, and will be interred at Fort Snelling Cemetery.
Darrell was born to Swain and Mildred Thomas. Swain died in WWII. Mildred later married James G. Wakefield.
A graduate of Mankato West High School, he joined the Navy at 18 and served on the USS Fechteler DD-870 during Vietnam as a STGSN (Sonar Technician).
He was preceded in death by his father, Swain Thomas, his step-father James G. Wakefield, and mother, Mildred Wakefield, and his sisters, Darlene Erickson and Sandra Rieffer. He is survived by his brothers James C. Wakefield (Julie Lemley) and William Wakefield (Julie Wakefield), numerous nieces and nephews, and brother-in-law, Russ Rieffer.
Darrell was an outdoorsman who primarily hunted deer and pheasant, an avid gardener and sports enthusiast who enjoyed spending time with family.
