Sister Mary Roman's Story
Sister Mary Roman Adam, SSND, 93, died Friday, September 8, 2017, at Good Counsel, Mankato. Her Funeral Mass is Wednesday, September 13, 10:30 a.m. in Good Counsel Chapel, with a Prayer Service at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, followed by visitation until the funeral.
Sister Mary Roman was born in St. Paul in 1924 to Roman and Marguerite (Robertson) Adam. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1948 following six years of employment as a department store accountant. She professed first vows in 1951, and then taught middle and upper grades for ten years. In 1961 she became part of the staff for SSND leadership in Rome, Italy, and served as congregational treasurer 1968-1975. In 1975 she returned to Mankato and was involved in local SSND financial leadership through 2002.
She is survived by one sister, Therese Schwinghammer, nieces and nephews, and her sisters in community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister and brother, Marian McMullen and Roman Adam.
