Sister Mary Louis's Story
Sister Mary Louis Pihaly, SSND, 101, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Good Counsel, Mankato. Her Funeral Mass is Friday, March 17, 10:30 a.m. in Good Counsel Chapel. A prayer service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday, followed by visitation until the funeral.
Sister Mary Louis (Teresa) was born In St. Paul in 1916. She graduated from Good Counsel Academy, Mankato, and entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1932. She professed first vows in 1936. She taught all grade levels in Catholic elementary schools in Minnesota, North Dakota, and Iowa and also served as principal in some of those schools. In the Mankato area, she taught at St. John the Baptist, Searles (1956-60); and was principal and teacher at St. Paul, Comfrey (1969-70). She also served first on the clerical staff, and then as a volunteer at Sandcastle Daycare in St. Paul. She is the last original participant in the Nun Study from Mankato.
She is survived by nieces and nephews and her sisters in community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and six brothers.
