Sister Lois's Story
Sister Lois (Mary Gilbert) Gilbert, SSND, 87, died Friday, August 11, 2017, at Good Counsel, Mankato. Her Funeral Mass is Monday, August 14, 10:30 a.m. in Good Counsel Chapel, with a Prayer Service at 9:00 a.m. Monday, followed by visitation until the funeral.
Sister Lois was born in Minneapolis in 1929 to Elmer and Beatrice (Martin) Gilbert. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1947 and professed first vows in 1950. In the Mankato area she taught at St. Joseph the Worker (1965-66), and taught and served as guidance counselor at Good Counsel Academy (1970-73 and 1977-78). After 48 years as a teacher and counselor, she helped inaugurate a folk art program in Oakdale, MN.
She is survived by two brothers, Don and Howard, nieces and nephews, and her sisters in community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Carol Dobbs.
