Oliver's Story

Oliver Fredrick Compart died on April 24, 2017 in St. Peter, Minnesota after a short bout with cancer. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 30 from 2-5 p.m. at the St. Peter Funeral Home- Klein Chapel. Funeral Service will be on Monday, May 1 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Peter with a one hour visitation prior to the service at church. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Oliver was born on February 19, 1928 in Granby Township, Nicollet County, Minnesota to Fred and Frieda (nee Schiebel) Compart. Oliver was united in marriage to Mary Pagel on August 3, 1950 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet; the same church that he was also baptized and confirmed in. Oliver served in the Army National Guard from 1948-1952 during the Korean War Conflict. Oliver was a life-long farmer. He farmed in New Sweden Township for 46 ½ years until he and Mary moved to St. Peter in 1998. Oliver was always an active member of his community. He served as a supervisor on the New Sweden Township Board for 15 years, the New Sweden Mutual Board of Directors for 19 years, the Nicollet Board of Education for nine years, and the Nicollet County Planning and Zoning Commission for nine years. Oliver was also an insurance agent for 17 years and a claims adjuster for New Sweden Mutual Insurance for 21 years. His hobbies included fishing, playing cards, woodworking which will be cherished by his children forever, traveling, bird watching, and word search books. Oliver will forever be remembered for his sense of humor that remained with him right up to the end. He always treasured the time he spent with each of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He made everyone who came in contact with him feel welcomed.
Left to remember Oliver is his wife, Mary; children: Barb (Michael) Horne of North Mankato, Kathy (Larry) Zuehlke of Mankato, Nancy Solberg of New Ulm, Marj (Jeff) Hagen of Janesville, Steve Compart of Northfield, Sue Compart of St. James, and Paul Compart of Nicollet; 15 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. Oliver was preceded in death by his sister, Bernice Atkinson, and his brother, Roger Compart.
