A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Tuesday March 7th at 1 PM. Visitation will be at 12:30.
John Roger Story was born on March 26, 1930 to Carl Archie Story and Ethel Frances (nee Rolf) Story in Grand Rapids, MI. He grew up with his brother Maurice Story and sister Bathea King (nee Story). He was active in 4-H, showing hogs in the Ionia County Fair, winning competitions and learning the livestock industry at a young age.
John married Joann Howard in 1951 in Grand Rapids, MI. They moved to Chicago, IL so that John could begin his career in the meat industry with Armour & Company and IGA. Their three daughters were born in Chicago, residing there until 1969 when they moved to Omaha, NE. John then worked for Supermarkets Interstate. John retired in 1998 from Fairway Foods in Northfield, MN after more than 40 years of achievements in the meat industry, culminating in his induction into the Meat Industry Hall of Fame in 2011. John was honored at the 2016 Minnesota State Fair for his significant contributions to the 4-H youth scholarship program. John's wife passed away in 1995. In 2003, John married Cecilia (Sue) Mueller in Mankato, MN where he resided until his death. In marrying Sue, John gained the love and respect of her entire family and friends. John will be greatly missed by all, as he made a tremendous difference in the lives of family, friends and colleagues.
He is survived by his wife Sue, his daughters Alison Kay Story Friedrich (Ronald), Sandra Lynn Danitz (Scott), Cynthia Ann Story (Barry Werner), stepson John James Steinbauer (Paula), Kathleen Pauline Black, Bernadette Helen Wilson (Patrick Herzog) and many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
