John Rodmond Johns, 90, Mankato, died June 29, 2017 at Hillcrest Health Care Center. Private family services will be held.
John was born December 9, 1929 in Mankato to Rev. John and Edith (Pritchard) Johns. He grew up and attended school in Minneapolis and at the age of 17 joined the Navy where he served from 1944 to 1946 on the USS Ticonderoga in the Pacific. After the service he graduated from high school. On August 15, 1948 he married Lorraine Meissner at her home by John's father, Rev. John Robert Johns. John worked for the Mankato Police Department from 1951 to 1965, this was the job he enjoyed the most. He then worked for Mankato School District #77. He loved fishing, playing softball, watching the Twins and Vikings, but most of all loved spending time with his family. He was a past member of American Legion Post #518.
John is survived by his wife, Lorraine; sons, David and Gary Lee of Mankato; daughters, Linda (Gary) Kramer of North Mankato and Mary Ann Johns of Mankato; grandchildren, Justin Johns, Ben Johns, Ryan Kramer, Cory Kramer, Noah Johns; 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and grandson, Alex.
