John Francis Butzer, born on June 1, 1950, was the first of Betty and Jack Butzer's 12 children. He grew up in Mankato, MN graduating from Mankato West High School in 1968. He served his country on the USS Johnston (DD-821) from 1968-1972. In 1977 John became a master plumber. He was owner of Mankato's Butzer Plumbing, "protecting the health of the nation" with his plumbing and mechanical skills.
John never met a stranger, and loved to share his many interests and ideas with those he met. He loved nature, and nearly became one with the wildlife that shared his beautiful property. He was fascinated with both science and cosmic theories and felt strongly that the earth was ours to protect, to share and to love. He never failed to get excited when the International Space Station tracked overhead on a clear, starry night, or he sighted a rare bird whose incredible wingspan was marked on the freshly fallen snow.
On January 17, 2017, with family at his side, John stepped into the spiritual oneness not of this world. He is survived by his love and best friend of 17 years, Jacky Warburton; his two sons, John F. Butzer III and Samuel T. Butzer (Rachael & children Ryan, Jayden, & Jordan); friend and mother of his children Laura Butzer; 11 brothers and sisters (Karen, Bindy, Cymp, Lisa, Bart, Liz, Jane, Joe, Andy, Christopher, and Al); Jacky's children (Susan, Stephanie & Mark); and many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family who loved him. John was preceded in death by his parents.
