John C. Barta, age 62 of Mankato, died on Friday, January 13, 2017 at his home.
A Celebration of John's Life will be Saturday, February 4, 2017 from 12:30 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at South Street Saloon 515 S. Front St. in Mankato. Woodland Hills Funeral Home of Mankato is assisting the family with arrangements.
John Charles Barta was born on June 16, 1954 to Stanley and Angeline (Fasciana) Barta in St. Paul, Minnesota. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1973. On October 16, 1974 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country until his honorable discharge on August 27, 1976. He was united in marriage to Leah L. Barta in 2006 in Las Vegas Nevada. John was a truck driver most of his life and was employed at SMC in Mankato for many years. He enjoyed playing cards, dice, fishing, gardening, traveling, and time spent with his friends at South Street Saloon. John especially enjoyed time spent with his family and his neighbors.
He is survived by his daughters; Russetta (Nate Luna) Barta of Fort Sumner, NM, Lacacia (Chris) Toner of Laurens, IA; father, Stanley Barta of CA; step-daughters, Gayle Braesicke of North Mankato, LuCretia Burse of St. Cloud; brothers, Robert (Brenda) Barta of Prior Lake, Stanley (Doreen) Barta of NV, James (Joan) Barta of North Mankato, Timothy (Susan) Barta of Mankato; sisters, Christine (Gary) Quandt of Tacoma, WA, Dee (Brady) Dreyer of North Mankato, Angie (John) Gappa of Good Thunder, Joan Barta of Mankato, Betsy (Timothy) Dalluge of North Mankato; grandchildren; Mabel Toner, Corinne Braesicke, James McGhee, Darion McGhee, Quiana Braesicke, Mariana Hall, JaKhari Hall, JaMarion Hall; by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother Angeline Barta in 2011; by his wife Leah L. Barta on October 17, 2016.
