Joanne Mae Austin, age 84 of Mankato, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Mankato Campus.
Private services will be held. Interment will be in the Lake Crystal Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to BENCHS in memory of Joanne. Woodland Hills Funeral Home of Mankato is handling arrangements.
Joanne Mae was born on June 6, 1933 to Archie and Olga (Haenze) Atkinson in Mankato, Minnesota. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1951. Joanne raised her family and lived in Mankato her entire life. For many years she was employed by Mankato District 77 Schools lunch program and later Carlson Craft as a production engineer until her retirement. Joanne enjoyed word search books and was an avid Vikings fan. She loved time spent with her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Scot Zellmer of Mankato, and Lynn N. Gessner (Brian Urban) of Truman; grandchildren, Melissa (Thomas) Chaves of North Mankato, Kristy Zellmer of Phoenix, AZ, Chad (Danica) Gessner of St. Peter, Aaron (Kelly) Zellmer of Lino Lakes; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Burnham of Milwaukee, WI; sister-in-law, Vonda Atkinson of Blaine; by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene Austin on May 20, 2007, and brother, Frederick Atkinson.
