Jeffrey Spann, age 53 of Mankato, passed away on Wednesday, April, 19, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Mankato.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 28, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Woodland Hills Chapel in Mankato with Rev. Iver Williams officiating. Interment will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park.
Visitation will be on Friday morning from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of services at the funeral home.
Jeffrey was born on May 8, 1963 to Howard and Teresa (Cunningham) Spann in Miami, Florida. He graduated from Miami Beach High School in 1981. Jeffrey then moved to Mankato and attended MSU from 1982 to 1986 graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He played football for the Mavericks and in 1986 was named Associated Press All-American. On July 23, 1994 he was united in marriage to Heather Robertson in Mankato, where they then raised their family. Jeffreys true passion was helping enhance the quality of life of people within the mentally handicapped community. He spent most of his professional life using his extraordinary gifts doing just that. In 2014 Jeffrey was inducted into the MSU Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a board member of the Mankato Area Youth Football Association, and was also a member of the Maverick Touchdown Club. He enjoyed football, music, grilling and entertaining friends and family. He loved spending time with his family, especially attending and supporting his childrens school and sporting events.
He is survived by his wife Heather of Mankato; children, Desmond Spann, Dondre Spann and Kathryn Spann all of Mankato; parents, Howard and Teresa Spann of Miami, FL; mother-in-law, Gail Robertson of Mankato; sisters, Olga (Iver) Williams of Miami, FL, Brenda (Isaiah) Brown of Delray Beach, FL, Bridget (Paul) Netter of Burbank, CA; brother, Tim Irving of Miami, FL; cousin, Janice Givens of Miami, FL; nieces and nephews, Aryeshia (Josie) Martinez, Shequilla Hall, Ivram Williams, Iverson Williams, Kahmari Martinez, Dehmyan Martinez, Kiyanah Martinez, Jasmine Givens, DeAngelo Givens; by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
