Irene Johnson, long time Mankato resident and most recently of Pathstone Crossing, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2017 at 99 years of age. Private services will be held. Woodland Hills Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
She was born in Dawson, MN on November 11, 1917 to Louis and Anne (Jerde) Moe. She married Carl L "Skie" Johnson on September 21, 1946. They moved to Mankato in 1949. During their working years, Carl was an accountant and Irene was an elementary teacher in Vernon Center, Garden City and Franklin Elementary in Mankato. She was also elementary principle while at Garden City. Irene loved to stay in touch with all of her teacher friends and never missed the annual Franklin teacher's reunion.
Irene lived life to the fullest, traveling the world. She especially enjoyed many winters in South Texas with the Texas Gang. She played golf, sang in Sweet Adelines, enjoyed her sewing and social circles and loved to keep up on the happenings of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church.
Irene is survived by her son, Vince (Vickie) of Bloomington, IL; granddaughters, Molly (Chad) Boukal and Jenny (Eric) Brotherton; great-grandchildren, Madison and Lucas Brotherton, Ethan Boukal and many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl, parents and stepmother, Hazel Moe; sister, Audrey Froiland and brother, Wayne Moe.
Irene loved her grand dogs and great grand dogs. If you wish to leave a memorial, please consider your local animal shelter or Humane Society.
