Gustaf "Gus"'s Story
Gustaf "Gus" Eklof, age 101 of St. Peter, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the Benedictine Living Community.
Funeral service will be 11:00 Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Peter with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery, St. Peter. Memorials may be directed toward the St. Peter Food Shelf. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Gustaf was born on April 19, 1916 in Hoffman, MN to Semming "Sam" and Karin "Carrie" (Swenson) Eklof. Gus served in the US Army during WWII. He was in the European Theater and was at the Battle of the Bulge. After his discharge, he returned to MN. Gus was united in marriage to Ruth Ronhovde on June 24, 1948 at Bethany Lutheran in rural Windom. He and Ruth made their home in Slayton where he ran Gus' Barber Shop for 36 years. While in Slayton, they were active in their church congregations and he bowled in league with Gus' Clippers. After retiring, they moved to St. Peter in 1985 to be closer to family. He enjoyed woodworking, summer trips to Ottertail Lake, bus trips (hitting 49 states) and volunteering at the St. Peter Food Shelf.
Left to remember Gus are his wife of 69 years, Ruth; children: Paul (Belinda) of Cokato and Carol (Terry) Endresen of rural Kasota; five grandchildren: Carrie (Gary) Enneking and Kristi (Tim) Schultz both of North Mankato, Jeffrey (Katie) Endresen of Le Sueur, Erin (Eric Palmer) Eklof of Maple Grove and Leah (Robert) Rivera of Hopkins; 9 great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
