George Wayne Johannsen age 76 of St. Clair died on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Sheltering Arms, St. Lucas Healthcare Community of Faribault, MN. A Celebration of Georges Freedom will be Friday, July 28, 2017 from 3-6pm at Woodland Hills Funeral Home with Military Honors at 6pm.
George was born on March 21, 1941 in Jackson, MN to George and Adeline (Westensee) Johannsen. He attended school in Waseca until his Junior year at which time the family moved to LeCenter, MN where after graduating from LeCenter High School, he enlisted in the Air Force in August 1959. He was stationed in Colorado, Florida, and Iceland, before being discharged in December, 1962.
George was married to Margaret (Peg) Miller May 1, 1965 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato. He was a research technician for Pioneer Hi-Bred from May 1965 to October, 1979 when the Lord chose to make him a stay-at-home dad/house husband. He enjoyed many years of fishing, hunting, shooting, amateur radio, spending lots of time at the computer, and sitting in the sun reading. He was secretary, then president of the Mankato Area Radio Club, secretary of the Key Cities Conservation Club, and co-teacher of fire arms safety classes at the club for many years. He was a life member of the Conservation Club and NRA, and also a member of VFW.
George is survived by his wife Peg (Margaret) of St. Clair, daughter Lynn (Corrie) Juliar of Mankato, son James Johannsen of Janesville, 3 grandsons, Isiah (Vanessa) of Mankato, Kalob Johannsen of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Dillon Johannsen of Mankato/Janesville and 1 granddaughter Alisha Johannsen of Mankato/Janesville, 2 sisters, 1 brother, 4 brothers-in-law, 8 sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law Len and Lucy Miller, brother-in-law Timothy G Miller, brother-in-law Brain Balfe, and nephew Mathew Scheffert.
