GEORGE MICHAEL DUEHRING
George Michael Duehring, 74, of Evans, GA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, May 23, 2017. George was born in Mankato, MN on July 21, 1942, the first of five children of Mercedes (Lauterbach) and George W. Duehring. After graduating from Loyola High School in 1960, he attended Mankato State College.
In 1964, George and close friends moved to southern California. He joined the US Marines and later received an honorable discharge. George began a 30+ year career with Sears Roebuck Co. residing in California, Utah, and Georgia. In 1993, he retired from Sears as Director of Sears Contract Sales, Customer Service and Operations. In the years following, George and his wife, Rosemary became owners of seven Zaxby's franchise restaurants in the Augusta, GA area.
George was active in his community, serving in numerous positions in area service organizations, the county chamber of commerce and others. He was a family and friends guy and enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing and flying light aircraft. His firm handshake, infectious laugh and warm smile will be missed by all.
George was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Grovetown, GA where he was very active. Funeral services will be Monday, June 12 at 11:00am at St. Teresa's. Internment will be in Pilgrims Rest cemetery in Mankato, MN on a future date.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary (Sauer); daughter Aubrey Nesbitt (Nick), GA; son George Michael 'Mike' Duehring II, CA and son Austin Duehring, GA; grandson Jackson Nesbitt; brothers Hon. Craig Duehring (Terri) of VA; Brian Duehring (Mary); Donald Duehring (Bobby); and sister Julie, all of MN; father and mother in-law, Bob and Bette Sauer of CA and numerous nieces and nephews in MN and CA.
George requested that donation memorials to his church are preferred in lieu of flowers.
