Elaine's Story

Elaine M. Leiferman, age 92 of Mankato, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at her home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato, with Fr. Paul Jarvis and Fr. John Kunz, Concelebrating. Interment with military honors will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato. Memorials preferred to the Mankato Area Veterans Memorial Squad.
Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon from 5 to 8 P.M. at Woodland Hills Funeral Home in Mankato, and will continue on Thursday morning for one hour prior to services at church.
Elaine Marie was born on December 28, 1924 to Claus and Gertrude (Hodapp) Hammerstrom in Mankato, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato and graduated from Loyola High School in 1942. She is a veteran of WWII serving in the WAVES as a PHM2/C from May 1945 to 1946. On December 28, 1946 she was united in marriage to Robert J. Leiferman. She attended Mankato State College and graduated as a Registered Dental Assistant. She worked as a chair side assistance for Dr. John Anderson in Mankato for many years. She is a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She is also a member of Mankato Area DOES, American Legion and DAV of Mankato and in 2010 participated in the Honor Flight program for WWII veterans. She recently received a lifetime bowling achievement award by WOW Zone and was honored by the Mankato YMCA as an outstanding member.
She is survived by her children; Linda (Stephen) Voss, Todd (Christine) Leiferman, Robin (Curt) Brookins and Mark (Roxanne) Leiferman; 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and sister, Joan Lohberger.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert J. Leiferman, son Keith Leiferman, her parents, Claus and Gertrude Hammerstrom, and brother Kenneth Hammerstrom.
