Alvin Preston "Swede" Reed, 86, passed away February 5, 2017 at Keystone of Manakto. Memorial service will be 11am Friday, February 17, 2017 at Woodland Hills Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Kosberg officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Mankato Mayo Hospice or charity of your choice.
Al was born on November 10, 1930 near Mankato to Lloyd and Helen (Stark) Reed, He attended school in Mankato until 10th grade then finished his high school and college years in Grand Rapids. He returned to Mankato and was employed at Kato Engineering for 30 plus years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, which usually kept his freezer filled with the rewards from his efforts. He was a kind and gentle man, who brought a smile to many faces through the friendships he developed. His greatest treasure through the last few years was his "Family of Friends" at the YMCA.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude, parents, Lloyd and Helen Reed; sister Carol Pfisthner; daughter, Patricia Hinsch; son, Bradley Reed; stepson, Larry Olson.
He is survived by his stepdaughter, Darla (Jim) Schmidt of Madison Lake; his children Lloyd (Sally) Reed of Boyceville, WI, Mike (Sue) Reed of Centuria, WI; Steve (Julie) Reed of Balsam Lake, WI; Donald (Karla) Reed of Shell Lake, WI, Ronald Reed of Barron, WI, James (Anabelle) Reed of Ogden, Utah, Christine (Mark) Hanson of Rice Lake, WI, and Paula Gardin of New Richmond, WI; sisters, Joyce (Robert) Ober of Overgaard, AZ Bonnie Jones of Brookston, and Donna (Royce) Sullinger of Cloquet; brother in-law Richard Pfisthner of Lake Nebagamon, WI; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
