Virginia Adeline Farrell
Virginia was born in the upstairs bedroom of her parents, Ester (Johnson) and Elmer Swanson, home in North Mankato on July 24, 1923, she shared a birthday with her brother, Lloyd. She died on May 7th at the home of her daughter Lovona, St. Joesph, MN. Funeral services will be on Thursday May 11. Visitation will be at 9:30 with funeral to follow at 11:00 at First Lutheran Church in St. Peter.
She graduated from Mankato High School in 1942. She was United in marriage to LuVern John Farrell on April 29, 1948 at Grace Lutheran Church in Mankato, MN. They farmed in Madelia until December 1959 when they purchased a farm outside of St. Peter by Traverse.
Virginia was employed at Gustavus Adolphus College for 28 years retiring on her 65th birthday. She enjoyed her family, farming, dancing, playing Phiffer. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, XL card club, and St. Peter senior citizens club. Virginia volunteered at Food Shelf, Red Cross Blood Bank, and Third Street Seconds.
Survived by daughter; Lovona Bengtson, St. Joseph, granddaughters; Valerie (Scott) Hommerding, Rice, MN, and Sone (Derek) Schultz, Bloomington, MN, step-grandchildren; Jason (Candy) and Jordan (Angie) Bengtson, Rice, MN. Great-grandchildren; Ervin and Claire Hommerding, and Kallana Schultz with another one to arrive in July. Step Great-grandchildren; Dylan, Kyah, Gabe, Landon, and Ethan Bengtson. Five nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by husband; LuVern, 1992, infant sons 1951 and 1952, parents; Elmer and Ester Swanson, brother; Lloyd and sister; Dorothy Lorentz, son-in-law; Jan Bengtson and all her cousins.
