Thomas "Tom"'s Story
Thomas "Tom" Willis Ely, age 57 of Cleveland, died Sunday, June 11, 2017 from results of a tragic motorcycle accident. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 15 from 4 pm to 8 pm at New Creation World Outreach Church in Mankato. Funeral service will also be held at New Creation World Outreach Church on Friday, June 16 at 11 am with visitation one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be in the Savidge Lake Cemetery in Cleveland.
Tom was born on May 6, 1960 to Willis and Rochelle (Sampson) Ely in St. Peter. He was a Cleveland High School graduate. Tom was united in marriage to Germaine McCabe on June 9, 1979 in Cleveland at the Church of the Nativity. Tom began his career as a welder at WINCO in Le Center. For the past 20+ years he worked for Chart Industries in New Prague.
Tom was a very generous, giving man. No matter who needed help he was always there. He was a man of very few words but his actions spoke loudly. His grandkids were his greatest joys in life, he loved every minute spent with them. Tom also enjoyed fishing, hunting and being outdoors especially riding his motorcycle.
Tom is survived by his wife, Germaine Ely of 38 years; mother, Rochelle Ely of Chaska; step-mother, Ardis Ely of Cleveland; children, Zack (special friend, Alisha Strand) Ely of Le Sueur, Rachel (Jesse) Allen of Kasota, Erica (Jon) Irvin of Mankato, and Tessa Ely of Le Sueur; siblings, Rob Ely of Mapleton, Kathy (Mike) O'Brien of Tennessee, Mickey (Cliff) Wollschlager of Austin, Tim (Brenda) Ely of Blaine, and Mike (Selena) Ely of Elysian; grandchildren, Ella Ely, Eliana Allen, Rihana, Bryna, Kason, and Benson Irvin; mother-in-law, Lois McCabe of St. Peter; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
Tom is preceded in death by father; father-in-law, Tom McCabe; brothers-in-law, Chuck McCabe and Gerard McCabe.
