Events

Terrance "Terry" Lee Dobbelaere, age 67, of North Mankato, MN died July 11, 2019 after complications from heart surgery.

Terry was born May 29, 1952 in Tillsonburg, Ontario. He was raised in Delavan, MN by his parents, Elaine and Howard Millmann, and attended Delavan High School. He also attended Minnesota State University at Mankato.

Terry was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a Specialist 5th Class. Terry was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Mankato, MN where he was actively involved as an advocate for the American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO. After his retirement from the U.S. Postal Service, Terry continued to be actively involved in the APWU.

Terry was a supportive friend, acting as a mentor and touching many lives in the community in important ways. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed taking friends and family members out on the lake in his boat to fish. He had a passion for playing cards and later in life he developed an interest in poker, studying strategies to outsmart his opponents. Terry enjoyed taking trips to Florida to fish and to California to visit family. A die-hard liberal, Terry loved to talk politics! He was also a hardcore Minnesota Vikings fan, annually attending training camp in Mankato.

Terry is survived by his sister, Patricia Planidin of San Jose, CA; daughter Tina Dobbelaere (John Grimm) and their daughters, Kate and Lola of St. Louis Park, MN and daughter Tara Dobbelaere (Chris Bolchen) and their children Harrison, Townes, and Odessa of West St. Paul, MN; nephew Brent (Theresa) Feller of Austin, TX, niece Laurie (Jason) Berberian of Castro Valley, CA, and nephew Brad (Lisa) Feller of San Jose, CA; several great-nieces and nephews and many close friends. Terry loved dogs and his dogs Spunky and Katie were very important to him.

Terry was preceded in death by his father, Julian; mother, Elaine; his stepfather, Howard; and his brother, Larry.

A celebration of Terry's life will be held Sunday, July 28, 2019 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Mankato at 2:00 PM.

On Monday, July 29, 2019 Terry will be buried with military honors at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Sorry we can't be there on Saturday. Thank you for being there for me when I needed you most, and for all the lives you have touched with your many forms of service. Like so many guys, I wouldn't be here for others today if you hadn't been there for me, and that commitment will continue to grow and multiply for years to come. My guess is that is the only kind of immortality you were ever interested in!

Very thankful for the opportunity to visit you at Regency and say goodbye. Even at the end, you still smiled and had your witty sense of humor. You are loved and will be missed by your DHS friends.
