Sister M. Margareta's Story
Sister M. Margareta Bertrand, SSND, 100, died Monday, January 29, 2018, at Good Counsel, Mankato. Her Funeral Mass is Friday, February 9, 10:30 a.m. in Good Counsel Chapel. A prayer service of remembrance will be held at 9:00 on Friday, followed by visitation until the funeral.
Sister Margareta (Florine Bertrand) was born in Clements, Minnesota in 1917 to Benno and Margaret (Neudecker) Bertrand. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1937 and professed first vows in 1940. She served as an elementary and high school teacher, especially in the areas of social studies. In the Mankato area she taught at SS. Peter & Paul (1938-39); Loyola High School (1949-51 and 1992-94) and Good Counsel Academy (1959-65). She also served in Mankato SSND Provincial administration as Provincial Leader (1965-71).
She is survived by nephews and nieces including Sisters Mary and Catherine Bertrand, SSND, and her sisters in community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers.
