Sister Dorothy (M. Annella)'s Story
Sister Dorothy (M. Annella) Merth, SSND, 100, died Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Good Counsel, Mankato. Her Funeral Mass is Friday, November 3, 10:30 a.m. in Good Counsel Chapel. A prayer service of remembrance will be held at 9:00 on Friday, followed by visitation until the funeral.
Sister Dorothy was born in St. Paul in 1917 to Rudolph and Anna (Hafner) Merth. She graduated from Good Counsel Academy in 1935 and entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame. She professed first vows in 1938. She served as a music educator, a St. Paul-Minneapolis Archdiocesan staff member, and as a Touch for Health kinesiologist. In the Mankato area, she taught at John Ireland, St. Peter (1939-41); SS. Peter & Paul, Mankato (1951-53); and Holy Rosary, North Mankato (1962-63).
She is survived by one sister, Sister Therese Marie Merth, SSND, one brother, George, nieces and nephews, and her sisters in community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
