Sister DelRey's Story
Sister DelRey Richard, SSND, 81, died Friday, February 10, 2017 at Good Counsel, Mankato. Her Funeral Mass is Thursday, February 16, 10:30 a.m. in Good Counsel Chapel. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7:00 prayer service, and one hour before Mass.
Sister DelRey (Ida) was born near Belfield, North Dakota in 1935. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1954 and professed first vows in 1956. She taught all grade levels in Catholic elementary schools in Minnesota and North Dakota, and also served as principal in some of those schools. In the Mankato area, she taught at Holy Rosary (1962-65), and was principal at St. John Vianney, Fairmont (1987-89). She served as director of the Good Counsel Education Center (1989-92) and was an interior decorator, artist and seamstress in the Mankato area (2002-2014).
She is survived by three sisters and her sisters in community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and three brothers.
