Shirley Thackray Norton died April 8th, in Milwaukee Wisconsin, from a short illness. She was 93.
The visitation will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1717 Church St., Wauwatosa Wisconsin, from 9:45 AM until the time of Funeral Service at 10:30 AM. The Reverend Gary Manning will be officiating. Burial will be at the Greenbush Cemetery, Greenbush Wisconsin at 2 PM.
Mrs. Norton was born April 7, 1924, to Glenn and Gladys (Melvin) Thackray in Waupun, Wisconsin. She graduated from Ripon College in 1946 and received and MA from Ohio State University in 1947. Mrs. Norton was a resident counselor at Indiana University, and a Head Resident at the University of Illinois from 1948-1958. Later she was a proofreader for 5 years at the St. Peter Herald.
She married Richard W. Norton in 1958 in Waupun, Wisconsin. They lived where he taught Spanish at colleges in Charlottesville, Virginia; Jacksonville, Illinois; and Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minnesota.
She is survived by two daughters, Helen Claire, and her husband James Bruckbauer of Milwaukee, Monica and her husband Charles Hewitt of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one son Joel, and his wife Leslie of St. Paul, Minnesota and seven grandchildren. She is survived by her brother Keith Thackray of Bainbridge Island, Washington, and a sister Lois Caldwell of Holland Patent, New York. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991, and one brother, David Thackray.
