Rodney's Story

Rodney Eiler Olson passed away Friday, March 24th, 2017 at St. Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter, Minnesota. A small family ceremony will be held at Fort Snelling in late spring. Rodney was the oldest of 3 children born to Clifford and Edith Olson in Albert Lea, Minnesota on August 31, 1943. He graduated from Fairmont High School in 1961. Rodney joined the Navy in 1961 and served until 1964. He attended Mankato State University, graduating with a BS and MS in Education. He always found joy in teaching and helping his students. And was proud to end his teaching career at the Central Alternative High School in Mankato before retirement. He married Judith Bratrud from Ringsted, Iowa on August 20, 1965 and was blessed with 2 daughters, Deb (Steve) Dahl of Lakeville and Michelle (Dave) Herzberg of Hanover and was known as Papa to grandchildren Ava and Isaak Herzberg. Rodney is also survived by his brother Robert (Sherri) Olson of Mankato. He was preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Edith and brother Richard. He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato. Rodney will also be remembered by his family and friends for his fondness of cars, whether collecting, racing or fixing them. Our family is extremely grateful for the love and support from family and friends during this time.
