Richard Dean Hanson, 80, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Wednesday, July 26, 2017. He lived a very full and active life up until his passing.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Jay Dahlvang officiating. Interment will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato.
Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon from 4 to 7 pm at Woodland Hills Funeral Home in Mankato, and will continue on Wednesday morning one hour prior to services at church. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to American Heart Association or American Lung Association.
Richard was born December 29, 1936 to Leonard and Hazel (Brenno) Hanson in Lanesboro, MN. He was a graduate of Lanesboro High School in 1955. Shortly after graduation he moved to Mankato where he worked for Kato Engineering for 44 years, the majority as a service technician. In addition to working at Kato Engineering he kept busy with apartment rentals and was a very hard worker.
Soon after arriving in Mankato he met Janette Schutz. They were united in marriage on September 12, 1959. Together they had four children, Mike (Mara), Michele (Gary) Throldahl, Monica (Loren) Guggisberg and Matt (Sara).
His interests included fishing, camping, hunting, traveling, playing cards, dances and lutefisk suppers. Richard was very social and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Richard is survived by Janette Hanson; his four children; five grandchildren, Corey, Kayla, Dylan Postel, (Monica), Spencer and Harper Hanson (Matt); significant friend, June Hanson; brothers, Duane, Darrell and Steve; sister, Marjorie (Gerald) Parker. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Francis, Bob and sister, Yvonne Cummings.
