Richard G. Davis, age 73 of Rochester, MN and formerly of Minnesota City, MN died Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, MN.
Richard was born October 16, 1943, in Winona, to Wilfred and Betty (Phillips) Davis. He graduated from Winona Senior High School and received his Bachelors Degree in Art from Winona State University. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in July 1966. On December 28, 1968, he married Aloha Denzer in Winona and they had four children.
Richard was employed at Winona State University for 37 years, retiring in 2007 as the Director of Publications. He was a member of the American Legion Post 9; VFW Post 1287; Pickwick Cemetery Board; Minnesota City Historical Society; and the Civil War Round Table.
He loved his family dearly, and is survived by his best friend and wife of 49 years Aloha, Rochester; four children: Eric (Laura) Davis, Mankato, MN; Andy Davis, Athens, GA; Tyler Davis, Sofia, Bulgaria; and Carrie (Josh) Wacholz, Rochester; five grandchildren: Owen, Lola, Max, Macy, and Gabby; two sisters: Kathleen (Tom) Suffrins, Rochester and Loretta (John) Davis Nagel, Winona; an aunt Irene Hodgdon, Blue Earth, MN; and other relatives and friends.
Richards family and friends will miss his sense of humor and infectious laughter. Upon retirement, he became an avid golfer. When he couldnt make it to the course, he enjoyed drawing, painting, reading about history, and watching sports, especially baseball and football.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Fawcet Junker Funeral Home in Winona. A service to remember Richard will be at 4 p.m. with a luncheon to follow at the American Legion. Interment will be at Pickwick Cemetery, Pickwick, MN with military burial rites conducted by the American Legion Post 9.
