Pauline "Penny"'s Story
Pauline Penny Marie Madsen lived a full life of 94 years and passed away on October 28, 2017. She touched the lives of many during those 94 years as a daughter, wife, super mom, sister, aunt and good friend. Her generous, big-hearted, good-humored nature will be missed by all who knew her.
Penny called Mankato her home all of her adult life after living her childhood years on farms in the surrounding area. She worked many years at the National Bank of Commerce and the American State Bank and played a significant role in initiating the development of Old Town, helping to preserve a classic piece of Mankatos historic downtown.
Penny had a soft spot for animals of all kinds and always had dogs and cats in her life to love and care for. She was an avid bird fancier and endlessly enjoyed watching the birds that came to her many feeders.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Clark Scott; husband, Marlin Mike Madsen; son, Gary Cummiskey; siblings, Scotty, Curtis, Gene, Delores Spreter, Meg Pulasky and Ev Edwards. She is survived by her son John Cummiskey of Iowa City, IA and daughter Mary Jaax of Marathon, WI; nephew, Stan Edwards and his wife Judie, Mankato; niece, Marilyn Robinson and her husband Chuck of Lake Crystal; cousin, Jim Kietzer and his wife Jodie of Mankato.
You cant tell a 94 year life story in a few paragraphs, but you can celebrate that life with loving memories. A celebration of Pennys life will be held in the spring when life renews and flowers bloom again because Penny relished the beauty of flowers. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend (Date and location of Pennys Celebration of Life to be published in the spring).
If you want to make a donation in Pennys name, she would want you to give to BENCHS Riverside Regional Pet Shelter in North Mankato.
