Milton's Story

Milton August Groskreutz, 93, of Mankato, died Tuesday, February 17, 2018 at New Perspective Senior Living in Mankato. A funeral service will be held Friday, February 16, 2018, at 11 AM at First Lutheran Church in Waldorf. Visitation will be Friday from 9 11 AM, prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at First Lutheran Cemetery. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is assisting the family. ww.brussheitner.com
Milton was born August 9, 1924 in Vivian Township, Waseca County, MN the son of August and Wilhelmina (Schwarz) Groskreutz. He attended Waseca County School District #47. He was united in marriage to Marie Margaret Harper May 8, 1947 in Wells, MN. Milt was a life-long farmer, and did custom farm work for many years. Milt trucked sweet corn and peas for Birds Eye, and delivered cars for Wells Ford for several years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Waldorf. He was also a member of Farm Bureau, and served as the Vivian Town Board Supervisor for many years. Milt loved to check crops, and he knew all the back roads and where everyone lived. He was an avid reader of books, magazines, and newspapers. Milt grew and hauled a lot of sweet corn, and his favorite meal was fresh sweet corn on the cob, which he could eat any time.
Milt is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Arnold (Irene) Groskreutz, and brother-in-law, Stan DeFreeze.
He is survived by his wife Marie, of Mankato; children: Linda Dreier of Dublin, OH, Ginger (Dennis) Kipp of North Mankato, Dale (Lynn) Groskreutz of New Richland, Neil (Jean) Groskreutz of Wells, and Glenn (Janice) Groskreutz of Spring Branch, TX; 11 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Reuben (Ellen) Groskreutz of Wells; brothers and sisters-in-law: Harold (Carol) Harper of Faribault, Dorothy DeFreeze of Richfield, Helen (John) Herman of Wells; numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
