Melvin L. Bergemann, age 91, of Good Thunder, died on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at New Perspective Assisted Living in Mankato.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Good Thunder. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Good Thunder. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are preferred to St. John Lutheran Church or Mayo Clinic Hospice, Mankato.
Melvin was born on October 20, 1926 in Beauford Township to Oscar and Helene (Tonn) Bergemann. Melvin served in the United States Army from 1949-1954. On May 11, 1952, Melvin was united in marriage to Shirleyann Seewald. He farmed until 1960 and worked other various jobs delivering fuel, operating a school bus service, and then retiring from Kato Engineering in 1991. Melvin was a member of the Good Thunder American Legion where he served as past commander and chaplain. He was very active in St. John Lutheran Church and was a basketball referee. Melvin enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling.
Melvin is survived by three sons, Richard of Phoenix, AZ, Larry (Gail) of Good Thunder, and Dale of Mankato; grandchildren, Dana (Michael) Davis of Phoenix, AZ, Crystal Bergemann (Dan Stafford) of College Park, MD, Ryan (Kelsey) Bergemann of Good Thunder, and Rachel Hruby of North Mankato; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Hilbert (Arlene) Bergemann of Good Thunder; sister, Norma Peters of Good Thunder; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife, Shirleyann; 2nd wife, Jean; daughter, Joyce; brother, Elmer (Pat); brother-in-law, Dean Peters.
