She attended St. Peter and Paul School and graduated from Loyola in Mankato in 1945. After high school she worked at the hospital in Mankato. On June 7, 1948 she was united in marriage to Eugene Fitterer and they made their home on a farm near Litchfield by Lake Minnie Belle. Mary Jane loved spending time with her children and attending their events; whether it was watching sporting events, choir or band concerts or being a leader in 4H.
