Mary's Story

Mary Humphrey, age 95, of Mankato, MN passed away at New Perspective Senior Living on October, 15, 2017. Mary was born on September 18, 1922 in Mankato to J.J. and Allie Flachsenhar. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1940 and Rochester Community College in 1942. On July 27, 1953, she married John Humphrey in Mankato.
She worked for 12 years at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester as a medical transcriptionist. She continued her career at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato until her retirement in 2005.
She is survived by her children, Jane (David) Fore of Plano, TX, John (Pamela) of Shorewood, MN, Thomas of East Gull Lake, MN and David of Mankato and also survived by grandchildren; Emily Fore, Micheal Fore, Allie Humphrey, Brita (John) Becker, and Kathryn Humphrey and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John, brother, John, and sister, Ann.
Mary enjoyed traveling, visiting many countries and historical sites. She was a voracious reader and a prolific knitter. For many years she knit hats for babies born at the hospital. She loved growing up in Mankato and always had many fun stories to share with family and friends.
Mary has donated her body to the Mayo Clinic. There will be an internment service at a later date.
