June Olstad
February 14, 1931 - November 18, 2018
June was born on February 14, 1931 in Mankato, Minnesota to Gordon and Leona (Gayer) Keyes. She attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Janesville High School in Janesville, Minnesota. She earned a degree from the Hamline Asbury School of Nursing in 1952. That same year, she married Lyle Olstad. June and Lyle made their home in Janesville, where Lyle ran a welding shop. During the 1950s and 1960s, June worked as a Registered Nurse at Immanuel Hospital in Mankato and at the Janesville Nursing Home. After nursing, she attended Mankato State University where she earned a graduate degree in Education. She became an Assistant Professor at Mankato State University from 1970 through 1985. While at Mankato State, she developed and became director of the paramedics program. June and Lyle made their retirement home on the west shore of Cedar Lake near Faribault, Minnesota, where they enjoyed entertaining friends and family.
June enjoyed the variety that life offered. In addition to her academic and employment pursuits, she was a private pilot, active in the church, and in her retirement, she became co-owner of The Window Box, a consignment gift shop in Faribault. Her church activities included choir and the Dorcas Society while at Trinity Lutheran in Janesville, and Women of the ELCA (WELCA) while a member at First English Lutheran Church in Faribault. She also played bridge with the Lady Eights in Janesville, played the piano, and enjoyed knitting, sewing, and crafts.
She is survived by her husband Lyle, son Stuart (Kim), granddaughter Jessie (Phil) Jubert of Fridley, Minnesota, grandson Conor Olstad of Crystal, Minnesota, great-grandson Henry Jubert; nieces Julie Erdman of Janesville, Holly Ristau of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, and Lori Keyes of Janesville; nephews Ken (Maureen) Olstad of Bloomington, Minnesota, Jim (Erica) Olstad of Janesville, and Curt Keyes of Janesville; and sister-in-law Goldie Keyes. She is preceded by her parents and her brother Dale Keyes of Janesville.
