Judith Rose (Keltgen) Mans

October 15, 1939 - January 16, 2019

Judith Rose (Keltgen) Mans Age 79 of St. Peter, Judy passed away peacefully on January 16th, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 15, 1939 in Nicollet, MN and grew up with her four sisters on a farm outside of St. Peter. After graduating high school from Good Counsel Academy in Mankato, Judy attended Mankato State College, getting her teaching degree in three years.

Her young teaching career was interrupted by her marriage to Jim in 1961 and the arrival of her three children born on three continents during the 1960s. Returning to Mankato in 1967, Judy started her 30-year career at Mankato State College (now Minnesota State University, Mankato). During her time at MSU, Judy worked for several University presidents, completed her Masters degree, started the Alumni Affairs office and served as its first director.

Upon retirement in 1997, Judy and Jim moved north and quickly plugged in to their new community. Among her many activities, Judy was particularly involved with the Jacques Art Center in Aitkin, MN and traveled frequently. She got and gave great joy through her Grandma Trips completed with her eight grandchildren. Upon turning fourteen, each grandchild got to choose an international destination and off they went with grandma. Ireland, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, London, and Rome were all enjoyed by young and old alike!

Judy is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jim; son, Adam (Elizabeth Burnett); daughters, Jessica (Derrick) Poirier and Katie (Doug) Molitor; grandchildren, Jake, Zak, Ben, Leo, Abby, Gabe, Henry, and Peter; and sisters Margaret Schmidt and Phyllis Rivard.

Visitation Thursday, January 24th, 5-7 p.m. and Friday, January 25th, 10-11 a.m. Funeral Friday, January 25th, 11:00 a.m., lunch to follow. All events at Church of St. Peter Catholic Church, 1801 W. Broadway, St. Peter, MN 56082. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family www.saintpeterfuneralhome.com.

Ours was a friendship that was close, and spanned over 70 years. Judy was my childhood friend starting in 4th grade at Holy Rosary School in North Mankato. She was upbeat, caring, supportive, loyal, and interested in everything. Our Good Counsel class reunions were reasons to meet and share our latest life adventures. We both wrote for the Mankato State college newspaper, and fostered our faith and friendship at Father Paul Halloran's Newman Club in the early 1960s. Though separated geographically, our friendship endured. Her visits to California (where I then lived) as Mankato State's Alumni Director afforded us time together on behalf of our common alma mater. She was passionate about ...her job. Our trips with other classmates to England and New York City were made extra special by her presence and enthusiasm. What a full life she lived! What a gift she was in my life. To say she will be deeply missed is an understatement.Read more

MSUM was blessed to have Judy as part of the college family. I met her at a reunion of NC alums in Raleigh in 1993. She will be missed but not forgotten. Robert Tatro, class of 1980.
