Irene Alice Herberg, age 91 of St. Peter passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2017.
Funeral service will be 11:00am Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church with burial at Greenhill Cemetery, St. Peter. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 Wednesday at St. Peter Funeral Home ~ Klein Chapel and will continue one hour prior to the service.
Irene Alice was born on October 22, 1925 in rural Kenyon, MN to (Peter) Edwin and Clara (Nyhagen) Baker. She graduated in 1943. During the war, she worked for the Civil Aeronautic Administration in Airport Weather Bureaus in Chicago, Cambridge, Cleveland, Madison and Minneapolis. She would wait for the airport name on the teletype, then key in the airport and weather conditions for whichever airport she was working at the time. She also held jobs at Honeywell and Frigidaire in the Twin Cities. Irene and her girlfriends loved going dancing at the Prom Ballroom in St. Paul. The Prom is where she met her husband, William W. Herberg, a veterinarian. They married on June 23, 1956 in Kenyon. They have three children. In 1959, they settled in rural St. Peter, MN. Irene loved to cook, bake, read, laugh, travel, garden, make lefse, play pfeffer and talk. She also loved to volunteer quilting.
Survived by children: William W. Herberg Jr (Carol J.), Kasson MN, Mary A. Herberg, St. Peter MN and Carol M. Herberg, St. Peter MN; Grandchildren: Jennifer Herberg and Joseph Herberg, Kasson MN; sisters-in-law: Leona Herberg, St. Peter MN, Nellie Baker, TX and Sue Herberg, Le Sueur MN; and many nieces, nephew, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Preceded in death by: her husband in 2000; brothers-in-law: Roger Herberg and Robert Herberg St. Peter MN; siblings: Orlin Baker, NM, Stanley Baker, Kenyon MN, and Evelyn Little, VA.
