Helen M. Pettis, age 92 of St. Peter, passed away Friday, November 3, 2017 at Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter after suffering a stroke at home the previous Saturday.
Funeral will be 11:00 am Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at the Church of St. Peter Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in St. Peter. St. Peter
Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Helen was born November 10, 1924 in St. Henry, Minnesota to Joseph and Helen [Moudry] Regenscheid. She was a graduate of Cleveland High School. She married Calvin [Kelly] Pettis on August 20, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Peter. They farmed in Cleveland and Kasota Townships in Le Sueur County. For a number of years, Helen was employed at the Red Owl grocery store in St. Peter. In 1978 they moved to St. Peter and resided there until their deaths.
She enjoyed caring for her children and grandchildren, collecting antique china, playing cards and Scrabble. Helen had many skills, including sewing, upholstering and refinishing furniture, oil painting, glass painting, and rosemaling.
Left to remember Helen is her son, Gregory and friend Sandra Ellis of Walker, Minnesota, four daughters, Diane Huberty and husband John, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Kristine Roue of Cambridge, Minnesota, Kathleen Pettis-Smith of Hawley, Minnesota, and Marilyn Marsh of St. Peter. Eight grandchildren, Jennifer [Pettis] Cox and husband Steven, of Whidby Island, Washington, Kelly Ann [Huberty] Hufft, of Mountain Aire, New Mexico, Kerry [Huberty] Law and husband Chris, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Kelsie Roue of Cambridge, Minnesota, Leah Roue of Belle Plaine, Minnesota, Adam Marsh, Stephanie Marsh, and Lindsay [Marsh] Garcia, of St. Peter. Eight great grandchildren, Dulcia and Eponine Roue, Reuben and Beckett McLean, Diana and Billy Hufft, Taya Law, Noah Underwood, and Maya Garcia. Also, her sister, Margaret Miller and husband Jim, sister-in-law Betty Regenscheid, and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Calvin, and by brother Charles Regenscheid, five other Regenscheid brothers and their spouses, Joseph and Esther, Leonard and Esther, Lawrence and Mary, Francis and Maggie, Walter and Darlene, sister Catharine, and her husband Frank Gostomczik.
