Gordon, 80, died on June 5, 2017, at Red Mountain Reflections in Mesa, AZ.
Gordon Gavin was born on March 24, 1937 in Redfield, SD. He earned his Doctorate degree in Education from University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Gordon and his wife Donna moved to Mankato in 1967, as he accepted a position with Mankato Teachers College. This began a 27-year career as a professor and department head with Minnesota State University at Mankato.
For the past 20 years, Gordon and Donna retired to an idyllic 20-acre plot of land near Hill City, South Dakota and wintered in a home east of Phoenix, AZ. Gordon enjoyed many hobbies, including carving, woodworking, fishing and hunting.
Gordon was reunited with his wife, Donna Gavin who passed on November 27. He is survived by his children Todd (Karin) Gavin of Mankato, Dean (Nancy) Gavin of Carver, Kay (Shawn) Snyder of Ankeny, IA; 9 grandchildren; and his brother Jerry Gavin of Sioux Falls, SD, and Lauretta Borresch of Redfield, SD.
