Glenn Merlin Thompson

In memory of Glenn Thompson May 26, 1934 - February 4, 2019
Born in Leroy, MN, Glenn graduated from Spring Valley High School, Minnesota and went on to receive a B.S. degree at the University of Minnesota. He also achieved an M.S. in Finance at the School of Banking, University of Wisconsin.
Glenn served with the U.S. Army from 1956-1958, stationed in Germany and achieved the rank Platoon Sergeant. Glenn's career in finance spanned 25 years in banking. He worked for First Bank Systems in Minneapolis, Mankato and Waseca, MN, and he served as president and chairman of the board of First State Bank of Waseca, MN. He lastly served as president of Security State Bank, Mankato, MN. He retired as Director of Operations at Happy Chef Systems, Mankato, MN. He was active in civic affairs in the communities of Mankato and Waseca.
Glenn had a life long passion for hunting, fishing, and traveling the world in retirement with his wife Barb. He was also a very talented artist and painted with oil, watercolors, and sketching in pen and ink. Relatives and friends enjoyed receiving gifts of his wood-carving talents. He carved birds, fish, and six foot authentic totem poles. Unfortunately these talents did not move through the gene pool to his kids.
He will be missed by wife Barb, children Peter(Mary), Kirby(Bonnie), Randy(Kelly), Becky(Chris), nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and many friends and relatives. We know Dad is in his tree stand fast asleep waiting for deer.
A memorial gathering will be held at Charlie's restaurant, 920 Madison Ave, Mankato MN. Sunday, February 10, 2019 from 2-4 PM. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
