George William "Bill" Ritter Jr., age 79 of Mankato, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Mankato, surrounded by his family.
A Celebration of Bill's Life will be Friday, June 14, 2019 at 11 A.M. at New Creation World Outreach Church in North Mankato, with Pastor Dave Laughlin and Pastor Gil Dewes officiating, with military honors following services at the church. Interment will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park at a later date.
The Ritter Family will greet friends on Friday morning from 9 A.M. until the hour of services at the church. Woodland Hills Funeral Home of Mankato is handling arrangements.
George William (Bill) Ritter Jr was born July 27, 1939 to Florence Palma Johnson and George William Ritter Sr. on July 27, 1939 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Bill attended Lutheran school through eighth grade followed by Ramsey High School. Bill enlisted in the United States Navy and attended The Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Michigan. Following Boot Camp he was assigned to the USS SHEA DM 30, home ported at Long Beach California, rotating to Sasebo, Japan every six months. After serving in the Navy, Bill returned home to join his father in business, owning and operating five cosmetology schools and three salons, all in Minnesota. This is where he met his wife, Donna, who volunteered to remodel his salon. Turned out to be the true love of his life and they were married in December 1970. They settled in Mankato in 1973, owning and operating Ritter Beauty College and Beauty Techniques. After retiring from the cosmetology industry, he worked various places to keep his social energy alive. Bill also served as District Governor in the Key City Lions Club.
His love for the Lord came first in his life followed by his family and his Country. He is survived by his wife, Donna Ritter of Mankato; son, Billy (Terri) Ritter of Hudson WI; daughter, Nicole (Gil) Dewes of rural St Peter; son, Chad (Jessica) Ritter of Richmond, VA; son, Jared (Angela) Ritter of Fort Worth, TX; daughter, Nancy (Paul) Curti of Naples, FL; 20 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Charlene Banning of Mahtomedi; by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends; and his beloved pets.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Pete Banning.
