Erna Dora Balk, age 94 of LeSueur died on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Minnesota Valley Health Care Center in LeSueur. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 11 a.m, St. Annes Catholic Church with interment in the Calvary Cemetery in LeSueur. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Lunch to follow at St. Annes School following burial services.
Erna was born July 16, 1922 in Belle Plaine, Minnesota in Scott County to Harold and Bertha (Westphal) Brenke. She married Herbert J. Balk on December 2, 1939 at St. Annes Catholic Rectory in LeSueur, Minnesota.
She worked for LeSueur and St. Peter Creameries for 22 ½ yrs. She then went to work for Green Giant and Pillsbury for 11 yrs. and retired In 1995. After her retirement she also worked for Seed House for five winters. Volunteering at the snack bar at the Minnesota Valley health center and delivering Meals on Wheels kept her active for many years. People knew her as she helped out at St. Annes school lunch and funerals.
She is survived by one son, Herbert Balk Jr. and wife, Nancy of Alexandria, Minnesota, Four Grandchildren: Teresa (Robert) Smith, Hudson, WI., Anthony (Terese) Balk, Minnetrista, MN., Thomas (Rebecca) Balk, Prior Lake, MN. and Timothy (Carrie) Balk, Lonsdale, MN. She had five Great-Grandchildren Caitlin, Lauren, Tanner, Nolan and Garrett.
She is survived by one brother Kenneth(Annette) Brenke of Le Sueur and one sister, Jean (Fred) Luskey of Ripon, WI as well as several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Herbert Sr. in 1966, two brothers, Melvin in 1988 and Arnold in 1996, two sisters, Bernice Mediger in 2000 and Adeline Maeder in 2006. Other family members that have passed before her include three nephews.
